(Edmonton, AB) – Rogers Place will be the epicentre of excitement on Friday, October 12, 2018 as over 16,000 students and educators from across the province will take part in WE Day – the world’s largest youth empowerment event of its kind. WE Day Alberta will provide a powerful, life-changing experience featuring renowned speakers, innovative thought leaders and celebrity performers.
“WE Day is a truly inspiring event and to get to celebrate the positive change and impact Alberta’s youth have had on our city and province is a privilege for everyone involved,” said Tim Shipton, Oilers Entertainment Group SVP, Communications & Government Relations. “We can’t wait to pack Rogers Place with the leaders of tomorrow who will earn their spot through participating in volunteer activities on a local and global scale.”
More than a one-day event, WE Day is connected to the free, yearlong educational program WE Schools. Providing schools and community groups with curriculum, educational resources and service-based learning campaigns, the program is designed to enhance a school’s existing social initiatives and spark new ones. WE Schools encourages students to further their curricular learning and develop life skills for success beyond the classroom.
Aligning in this mission, WE Day Alberta will join forces with Hockey Helps Kids. The philanthropic initiative of Chloe and Harrison Katz, children of Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) owner Daryl Katz and his wife Renee, Hockey Helps Kids is a fun and innovative charity competition bringing together local schools, charities and the hockey club to raise awareness and funds for a variety of causes.
“Hockey Helps Kids is all about providing students in Grades 7 through 9 the opportunity and means to learn about their communities’ needs and make a lasting social impact,” said Harrison Katz, co-founder of Hockey Helps Kids. “Chloe and I are thrilled to see Hockey Helps Kids grow through a partnership with WE Day and to be part of such a powerful movement to celebrate and support our youth who are making a difference.”
